Favorite Quote - BLOGTOBER Day 15

Helene in Between Blogtober

I love quotes. But what chick doesn't? Back in the days of LiveJournal I would follow (was that the term back then?) and read the quote journal accounts and copy them into my AIM profile. I’ve always loved poetry, meaningful song lyrics and pretty much any words that I can take and apply to my current situations or past life.

I read Randy Pausch's "The Lecture" in college, which is a phenomenal book and you should all read it today if you haven't already, and it is still one of my favorites. I read it after Dad passed away hoping for some inspiration and that is exactly what I got out of that book. Every word of it spoke to me, but when I read the following sentence I stopped and re-read it 10+ times.

"Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted."

Those words struck me.

You can interpret this quote in many different ways but to me it is simply saying that even though you may not always get what you want, as long as you are trying, you gain experience. If you work on something so hard expecting a certain outcome only to receive the completely opposite outcome - you still gained experience.

This quote can be applied to so many aspects of life - love, work, hobbies, writing, etc.

How do you interpret this quote?
