A Letter to My Younger Self.. Blogtober Prompt

Helene in Between Blogtober

Better late than never.. linking with Helene & Taylor for Blogtober.

I have often thought about how great it would be to travel back in time to talk to my younger self and tell her to “shut up and relax!”

Do you ever look back at the “problems” you thought you had in high school and laugh? I do. Back then I was so worried about tiny, worthless, miniscule things that should not have occupied a moment of my time, but back then they seemed as large as mountains.

I’m sure you’ve heard the familiar line “Ohhh when you grow up and look back at these times you’re going to miss them and how easy your life is now.” I don’t miss all of those times per say but I do miss not having responsibilities and all that other junk us grownups have to deal with.

If I was given the chance now to start over again as a young whipper snapper high school student I don’t think I would even entertain the thought. While there are some things I think I may have done differently, I do believe in fate and that everything happens for a reason so I probably wouldn’t change a thing I did. Except for wearing that the long jean skirt with a side slit and metallic ADIDAS superstar sneakers, I would burn that outfit. And those bangs.. grow that shit out, Nancy.

But, I would tell younger Nancy a few things:

nancy sincerely and sarcastically

Dear Nancy,

First and foremost.. you are NOT fat. In a few years you are going to look back at photos of yourself and ask yourself WHY you ever thought you were. You’re perfect. Relax. Don’t waste another moment thinking about it.

Please make sure to tell your family and friends how much they mean to you, because one day some of them will suddenly be gone.

Establish an exercise routine NOW.

Don’t straighten your hair so much. Embrace the waves. You look stupid with slicked down hair.

Join a couple sports teams or clubs in high school and college. You are way too competitive to not compete in a sport.

Don’t be so shy.

And gain some confidence. Confidence is sexy, insecurity in not.

Don’t be afraid to speak up.

QUIT smoking, you asshole.

Stop comparing yourself to others. That shit is annoying.

Most importantly, don’t stress so much about the future. Older Nancy is figuring that out for you.
